Summary:

In the life of each person, an important role is played by his/her activity. It means active attitude to the surrounding reality, education, socio-political events, public, labor, business, sports activities. The authors of the article believe that the versatility of the concept of “activity” should be expressed in a more complex concept “active life position” and considered as one of the key competences of a person, which should be formed and developed throughout the person’s life. Active life position is a complex concept. It is an indicator of a person’s civil maturity and includes the totality of attitudes of an individual to the surrounding reality (society, collective, himself/herself, nature, studying, work, etc.) and is expressed in activity. As usual, the main influence on human’s education is made in educational institutions. Their main task is to create such system of knowledge that would allow a person to explain, evaluate and understand the connections and relationships in public life, industry, family and work. The school forms the basis for the qualities necessary for revealing pupils’ active life position in future. The family supports and facilitates this process. Higher educational institutions, in turn, on a scientific basis, turn the school foundations into beliefs, find opportunities to apply them in practice. Based on the essence of active life position (they are presented in the form of a diagram in the article), the authors of the article believe that the key and decisive role in an active life position forming belongs to higher educational institutions. According to the authors, the main means of influence on student youth’s active life position forming and developing is activity, active participation in public life, socio-political events, various types of work, sports, amateur activities, etc. Active activity largely depends on human’s awareness, life knowledge and skills that emerge on the basis of gained scientific knowledge. Educated, knowledgeable person has broader outlook, fuller idea of the surrounding reality, more holistic view of the interdependence of processes and phenomena. Therefore, as a rule, such a person acts more purposefully, creatively and actively.

Key words: active life position, knowledge, skills, activity, need, activeness, competence approach.
